緣起~
老黑喬﹝Old Black Joe﹞是由美國作曲家史蒂芬福斯特﹝Stephen Foster 1826-1864﹞所創作的一首鄉村民歌。曲名中的「老黑喬」確有其人，在1860年的時候福斯特的妻子瓊家的一個老黑奴去世了。老黑奴生前要作者為他寫一首歌，作者答應了。作者福斯特與這個老黑奴有著多年的交情，老黑奴的去世使作者深感悲痛。這首歌正是在這一背景下寫的，旋律優美、親切而又哀婉動人。顯然，作者寫作本曲除了寄託對老黑奴的哀思以外，也融進了對自己境遇的哀歎。
